Taylor hates copycats
April 26th, 2010 | filed in: News

Taylor Momsen’s character on Gossip Girl may design clothes that she wants her peers to wear, but don’t you dare copy Little J’s style in real life. She thinks it’s creepy.

According to Contact Music, Momsen discussed her thoughts on teenage girls dressing like her.

“It’s flattering, but it’s weird. People have my haircut, my make-up, they literally look like a version of me. It’s cool to be inspired by someone, but I think you’ve got to find a way to make it your own and not just copy.”

While we agree that fashion inspiration is better kept as inspiration, given Momsen’s fan base of tweens and just barely teens, it seems a little harsh of a statement. And besides, I’m not quite sure that overuse of eyeliner and stringy platinum hair is really “your haircut” and “your makeup.” I’m pretty sure it was Blondie’s.

Be grateful my heroin-chic gossip girl. While copying isn’t necessarily fashion’s sincerest form of flattery, your widespread fashion icon status (while it may confuse us), should make you proud, not “weird.”
